Why Systemization Is So Key To Success

Being human is a perplexing thing.

We’re complex and nuanced.

On one end of the spectrum, most of the time we walk around thinking we’re invincible, yet deep down inside we know we aren’t.

In that same breadth, we think that we have a sort of unlimited brain power.

The truth is, our resources are finite (especially time).

You only have so many resources available to you in any given day when it comes to your brain.

Perfect example of this is let’s say you were attempting to eat clean and lose weight as you’ve probably tried in the past.

You did great for the whole day, then by the time you got to the end of the day, you sabotage a whole days worth of discipline by binging on junk.

What happened in that scenario?

And why is it so important in the results that you generate in your business?

See, you only have a limited amount of resources to resist temptation.

The more you use up resources throughout the day and exert willpower, the more difficult it is to stay disciplined near the end of the day.

Reason being, it takes brain power and resources to stay disciplined.

In one study of Israeli judges, they found that prisoners and possible parolees with hearings early in the day, were more likely to have leniency and being granted parole early on in the morning.

As the day progressed, the chances of being granted parole moved to zero.

Then after lunch, their chances of being granted parole increased again then as the day progressed moved back towards zero.

Why is that?

Well, what happened with these judges is as their mental resources were being used, they moved back into their default programming which was to deny parole.

After a break and lunch, mental resources replenished, chances of possible parolees being granted parole increased again.

Your brain reacts in the same way throughout your day.

If your default programming is full of harmful habits, chances are by the time you get to the end of the day, you’re going to go back to default programming.

And you know what uses up resources more than anything?

Having to constantly prioritize and make decisions.

One place that most business owners constantly use up resources if they’re managing their ad campaigns and deciding whether to turn them off or not.

Then that use of resources starts to result in poorer performance everywhere else.

One key thing that needs to be done is to create rules so they don’t have to constantly monitor their ad campaigns.

By creating rules and allowing the automation to make decisions for you, not only do you save valuable mental resources but you take emotions out of the decision making process.

It allows you to be better in every other area of your life as well.

One key example is, did you ever notice how Steve Jobs wore the same turtleneck, jeans and New Balance sneakers everyday.

It’s this very same concept, he didn’t want to waste mental resources having to make decisions even as small as what to wear, so he could focus on the real drivers of performance in his business.

You’d be wise to take a page out of his book.

Maybe not taking it as far with the whole outfit thing, but being careful how you use mental resources.

Automate what you can so your decision making process doesn’t drain your mental resources and so you can perform better in every area of your life.

What are the things that you can automate today so that you don’t have to constantly make decisions about it?

That’s all I wanted to share for now.

Until next time.
